... and now, let's enjoy!
Tips
For a soft cake, mix the batter as little as possible once the flour is in. Choose sweet, slightly tart apples, such as Golden Delicious or Renette. Ovens vary, so start checking with a toothpick at 40 minutes.
Additional Info
Oat milk and sunflower oil make this cake free of butter and dairy. It keeps for 2 to 3 days under a cake dome or in an airtight container, in a cool, dry place.
Substitutions & Variations
For a crunchier top, sprinkle the cake with a little brown sugar before baking. You can add dark chocolate chips, raisins or other nuts, such as hazelnuts and almonds. For a more intense aroma, add the grated zest of an orange. For a whole-grain version, replace part of the 00 flour with whole wheat or oat flour, adjusting the amount of milk if needed. For a vegan cake, see our easy vegan apple cake. For a gluten-free version, use a gluten-free flour blend and check that every ingredient is certified gluten-free.
Serving Suggestions
Serve the cake at room temperature, cut into slices, for breakfast or an afternoon snack. It goes well with a cup of tea, coffee or a warm plant-based drink. For an extra treat, dust it with powdered sugar or drizzle it with maple syrup. As a dessert, serve it with vanilla custard or a spoonful of plant-based yogurt.
